ATLANTA, Ga. — Over 100,000 baseball coaches on the high school and college levels are expected to be able to receive COVID-19 vaccinations now in phase 1B.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that people 75 years of age and under along with frontline essential workers would be allowed to receive COVID-19 vaccinations in phase 1B which was rolling out in states on Monday (Jan. 11, 2021).
Essential workers are defined as firefighters, police officers, corrections officers, food and agriculture workers, Postal Service workers, manufacturing workers, grocery store workers, public transit workers and those who work in the education sector (teachers and support staff), as well as daycare workers.
It will be up to each state to decide who gets the vaccine in which order. So far, all states have been abiding by the CDC’s recommendation on what order people should receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Schools and baseball coaches across the country must contact their county health departments to find out if coaches will be allowed to receive the COVID-19 vaccine shot.
Teachers are defined as those who instruct students, and that includes math, English, history, drama, PE, wood shop, and coaches, among others.
The recommendations were approved by Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Robert Redfield and are official policy by the CDC.
