FRESHMEN ALL-AMERICANS
TUCSON, Ariz. — The 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team, selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features a wealth of baseball talent.
The team is headed by Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman Pitcher of The Year RHP Zach Plesac of Ball St. (12-2 with 6 saves and a 2.11 ERA in 25 appearances) and Freshman Player of The Year 2B Jake Noll, Florida Gulf Coast (.367, 18 doubles, 29 RBIs, 25 SB).
Here is a rundown on the 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-Americans.
Starting Pitchers
RHP Zach Plesac, Ball St.: The Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Mid-American Conference and a First Team Mid-American choice, Plesac was 12-2 with 6 saves and a 2.11 ERA. He also fanned 67 batters with 33 walks over 85 1/3 innings.
RHP Bailey Ober, College of Charleston: A first team Colonial Athletic Association and All-Rookie selection in the league, Ober was 9-2 with a 1.37 ERA. He struck out 78 batters with 18 walks over 91 2/3 innings.
LHP Tyler Alexander, Texas Christian: A second team Big 12 Conference pick and a member of the All-Freshmen team in the league, Alexander was 10-3 with a 1.94 ERA, two complete games, 57 strikeouts and 11 walks over 92 2/3 innings.
RHP Logan Shore, Florida: A first team Southeastern Conference selection and Freshman of The Year in the league, Shore was 7-3 with a 1.99 ERA. He fanned 62 batters with 18 walks over 90 2/3 innings.
RHP Parker Bean, Liberty: Bean was 7-2 with a 2.71 ERA, 77 strikeouts over 73 innings and 33 walks. He was a first team Big South Conference pick as well as the Freshman of The Year in the league.
RHP Phil Bickford, Cal. St. Fullerton: The Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Big West, Bickford was 6-3 with a 2.04 ERA. He struck out 68 batters with 12 walks over 70 2/3 innings.
RHP Chris Mourelle, Florida International: A second team Conference USA pick and Freshman of The Year in the league, Mourelle was 9-3 with a 1.95 ERA and two complete games. He struck out 37 batters in 78 1/3 innings with 11 walks.
LHP Jared Poché, Louisiana St.: Poché was 9-3 with a 2.45 ERA and one complete game. In 91 2/3 innings, he struck out 52 batters with 26 walks.
RHP Mike Shawaryn, Maryland: Shawaryn was 11-3 with a 2.81 ERA. He fanned 70 batters with 24 walks over 86 1/3 innings.
RHP Sam Odom, Sam Houston St.: Odom was 9-2 with a 2.57 ERA and one save. He struck out 36 batters over 73 2/3 innings.
RHP Wil Crowe, South Carolina: Crowe was 8-3 with one complete game and a 2.75 ERA. He struck out 59 batters with 19 walks over 91 2/3 innings.
LHP Sam Long, Sacramento St.: A second team Western Athletic Conference selection and Freshman of The Year in the WAC, Long was 8-2 with a 3.03 ERA and two complete games. He struck out 50 batters over 95 innings and walked 26.
LHP Dylan Dusek, Texas Tech.: Dusek was 7-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He fanned 36 batters with 13 walks over 69 1/3 innings. At one point during the season, he had a streak of 23 consecutive innings without issuing a walk.
RHP Sam Tewes, Wichita St.: Tewes was 8-3 with a 3.27 ERA. He struck out 50 batters with 30 walks over 82 2/3 innings.
RHP Adam Oller, Northwestern St.: A second team Southland Conference pick and Freshman of The Year in the league, Oller was 6-2 with a 2.44 ERA. He registered three complete games, one save and struck out 58 batters with 20 walks over 92 1/3 innings.
RHP Dustin Hunt, Northeastern: A third team Colonial Athletic Association pick and a member of the All-Rookie team in the league, Hunt was 6-1 with a 2.50 ERA. He fanned 73 batters with 30 walks over 82 2/3 innings.
LHP Tanner Tully, Ohio St.: A second team Big Ten pick and Freshman of The Year in the league, Tully was 6-3 with a 2.22 ERA and one complete game. He struck out 53 and walked only seven over 93 1/3 innings.
RHP Gaby Rosa, Rutgers: Named Co-Rookie of The Year in the American Athletic Conference, Rosa was 6-3 with a 2.91 ERA and one complete game. He fanned 30 batters with 19 walks over 74 1/3 innings.
RHP Cal Quantrill, Stanford: A first team Pac-12 Conference selection and Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the league, Quantrill was 6-5 with a 2.75 ERA and two complete games. He struck out 90 with 31 walks over 101 1/3 innings.
LHP Bryan Sammons, Western Carolina: An All-Freshman selection in the Southern Conference, Sammons was 7-2 and struck out 57 batters with 36 walks over 60 innings. He also had two saves.
RHP Brett Adcock, Michigan: An All-Freshman Big Ten pick, Adcock was 7-4 with a 2.87 ERA and one save. He struck out 61 batters with 20 walks over 53 1/3 innings.
RHP Andrew Lantrip, Houston: Named Co-Rookie of The Year in the American Athletic Conference, Lantrip was 6-0 with a 1.55 ERA. He struck out 33 batters with only 5 walks over 40 2/3 innings.
RHP Cas Silber, High Point: Silber was 5-0 with a 1.53 ERA in 22 appearances. He struck out 61 batters and walked 38 over 59 innings.
RHP Robert Tyler, Georgia: Tyler made 12 starts and led the Bulldogs with a 6-4 record and 2.68 ERA which was the lowest ERA by a Georgia starter in 10 seasons. In 80 2/3 innings, he struck out 64 while walking 22.
RHP Keegan Thompson, Auburn: An All-Freshman selection in the Southeastern Conference, Thompson was 5-3 with a 2.01 ERA. He also had two complete games, one save and struck out 73 batters with 23 walks over 89 2/3 innings.
LHP Matt Krook, Oregon: Krook pitched in 45 1/3 innings this season with 60 strikeouts and 19 walks as he posted a 2-1 record and 1.79 ERA. He only gave up 22 hits.
LHP Anthony Pacillo, Seton Hall: Pacillo was 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA and one complete game. He struck out 36 batters and walked 13 over 63 1/3 innings.
Relief Pitchers/Closers
Bryan Garcia, Miami (Fla.): A second team Atlantic Coast Conference pick, Garcia posted 15 saves and had a 6-4 record with a glistening 1.86 ERA. In 48 1/3 innings, he struck out 53 batters and walked 18.
Ian Hamilton, Washington St.: A first team Pac-12 pick, he posted 15 saves with a 2.70 ERA and 2-2 record. Hamilton struck out 24 batters with 12 walks over 30 innings. He pitched in 28 games all in relief.
Thomas Burrows, Alabama: An All-Freshman pick in the Southeastern Conference, Burrows had 11 saves, 4-2 record and 2.15 ERA. He struck out 34 batters with 15 walks over 37 2/3 innings in 24 appearances.
Reagan Bazar, Louisiana-Lafayette: Bazar posted 6 saves with a 4-0 record and 2.32 ERA over 24 appearances. He struck out 19 batters in 31 innings.
Devin Hemmerich, Norfolk St.: A second team Mid-Eastern Conference pick, Hemmerich posted 5 saves and had a 5-3 record with a 2.49 ERA and one complete game in 21 appearances. He struck out 38 batters with 13 walks over 61 1/3 innings.
Cameron Stone, Stony Brook: A first team America East pick and Rookie of The Year in the league, Stone had 8 saves and a 1.96 ERA over 18 appearances. He struck out 45 batters with 20 walks in 36 2/3 innings.
Marc Skinner, Troy: A second team Sun Belt pick and Freshman of The Year in the league, Skinner was 6-1 with 5 saves and posted a 1.52 ERA over 31 appearances. He fanned 70 batters with only 16 walks in 65 innings.
Ryan Keaffaber, Indiana St.: Named Freshman of The Year in the Missouri Valley Conference, Keaffaber had 11 saves, a 3-1 record and 2.80 ERA in 23 appearances. He struck out 35 with 18 walks over 54 2/3 innings.
Kyle Pauly, Southern Illinois: A second team Missouri Valley Conference selection, Pauly made 22 appearances with a 1.43 ERA over 50 1/3 innings. He struck out 41 batters with 23 walks and posted two saves and a 2-3 record.
Catchers
Zack Collins, Miami (Fla.): A third team Atlantic Coast Conference pick and Freshman of The Year in the league, Collins hit .302 with 11 homers, 14 doubles and knocked in 54 runs.
Jarrett Rindfleisch, Ball St.: A first team Mid-American pick and Freshman of The Year in the league, Rindfleisch hit .352 with 9 doubles, 4 home runs and 33 RBI.
Tyler Lawrence, Murray St.: Named to the All-Freshmen team in the Ohio Valley Conference, Lawrence hit .313 with 11 doubles, 1 homer and 36 RBI.
Sean Murphy, Wright St.: A second team Horizon League pick and Freshman of The Year, Murphy hit .301 with 11 doubles, 4 homers, 3 triples and 35 RBI. He also swiped 10 bases.
Aaron Barnett, Pepperdine: Named to the All-Freshmen team in the West Coast Conference, Barnett hit .373 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 27 RBI.
First Basemen
Ryan Cleveland, Georgia Southern: An All-Freshman pick in the Southern Conference, Cleveland hit .253 with 16 doubles, 6 homers and 31 RBI.
Alex Woinski, Lafayette: A second team Patriot League selection, Woinski hit .326 with 12 doubles, 1 homer and 20 RBI.
Dre Gleason, Austin Peay: Gleason hit .261 with 9 doubles, 4 homers and 29 RBI.
A.J. Balta, Oregon: Balta hit .242 with 12 doubles, 3 homers and 3 triples and drove in 29 runs. He also swiped 7 of 9 bases.
Second Basemen
Jake Noll, Florida Gulf Coast: A first team Atlantic Sun pick and Freshman of The Year in the league, Noll collected a program record 101 hits which ranked second in the nation behind Atlantic Sun Player of the Year Max Pentecost. He also swiped an A-Sun best and FGCU single-season record 25 bases. Noll hit a team-high .367 to go with 56 runs, 18 doubles and 29 RBI all while being the only Eagle to appear in all 61 games, which is also a single-season program record. The freshman also put together a 19-game hit streak.
Camden Duzenack, Dallas Baptist: Duzenack hit .321 with 14 doubles, 2 triples and knocked in 27 runs.
Brandon Lowe, Maryland: A third team Atlantic Coast Conference pick, Lowe hit .341 with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run and 39 RBI. He also swiped 8 bases.
Will Savage, Columbia: A first team Ivy League selection and Rookie of The Year, Savage hit .320 with 8 doubles, 1 homer, 1 triple and 15 RBI. He also was 14 for 16 in stolen base attempts.
Stephen Kerr, Florida Atlantic: A second team Conference USA pick and a member of the All-Freshmen team in the league, Kerr hit .324 with 10 doubles, 16 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
Steve Sada, Miami (Ohio): Sada hit .309 with 15 doubles and 21 RBI. He also swiped 9 bases.
Todd Czinege, Villanova: A second team Big East pick, Czinege hit .306 with 7 doubles, 4 homers, 3 triples and 38 RBI.
Third Basemen
Robbie Knightes, St. John’s: A second team Big East selection, Knightes hit .399 with 6 doubles, 1 triple and 26 RBI.
Andrew Knizner, N.C. State: A third team Atlantic Coast Conference selection, Knizner hit .330 with 11 doubles, 4 homers, 1 triple and 47 RBI.
Spencer Gaa, Bradley: An honorable mention Missouri Valley pick, Gaa hit .294 with 14 doubles, 2 triples and 22 RBI. He also swiped 15 bases which was the most by a freshman since Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett swiped 21 bases in 1981.
Garrett Chapman, Georgia Southern: An All-Freshman pick in the Southern Conference, Chapman hit .341 with 8 homers, 7 doubles and 32 RBI. He also swiped six bases.
Will Craig, Wake Forest: Craig hit .280 with 8 homers, 6 doubles and 36 RBI.
Shortstops
Garrett Hampson, Long Beach St.: A first team Big West selection and Freshman of The Year in the league, Hampson hit .316 with 13 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run and 16 RBI. He also swiped 8 bases.
David Fletcher, Loyola Marymount: A first team West Coast Conference pick and Defensive Player of The Year in the league, Fletcher hit .329 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and 28 RBI. He also swiped 17 of 21 bases.
Logan Gray, Austin Peay: Gray hit .249 with 15 doubles, 6 homers and 36 RBI. He also stole five bases.
Adam Walton, Illinois: A second team Big Ten pick and an All-Freshmen selection, Walton hit .329 with 5 doubles, 3 triples, 1 homer and 19 RBI. He also swiped 13 bases.

Alex Robles, Austin Peay: A second team Ohio Valley Conference pick and Rookie of The Year in the league, Robles hit .349 with 14 doubles, 2 triples, 1 homer and 39 RBI as a hitter. Sheldon Neuse, Oklahoma: A first team Big 12 pick and Freshman of The Year in the league, Neuse hit .304 with 17 doubles, 7 homers, 7 triples and 47 RBI. He also was 1-0 with 1 save with a 2.25 ERA in 12 innings as a pitcher.
Bobby Dalbec, Arizona: Dalbec hit .266 with 9 doubles, 2 homers and 30 RBI as a hitter. On the mound, he posted 2 saves with a 2.13 ERA over 22 appearances and a 3-5 record. He fanned 24 batters with 10 walks over 38 innings.
