CB’s National Players Of Week 3-19-18

LHP Shane McClanahan & RHP Carson Ragsdale, South Florida: The Bulls tossed the first combined no-hitter in program history during a 12-0 win over Army. McClanahan struck out a career-high 15 batters over the first six innings. Ragsdale pitched the final three frames as he fanned 7 batters. The duo combined to strike out 22 batters to set a school record. In the process, McClanahan also extended his scoreless innings streak to 30 2/3 to start the season.   

RHP Kyle Hurt, Southern California: Hurt combined with two other pitchers to throw the program’s seventh no-hitter during a 2-0 win against Utah. Hurt tossed 7 2/3 no-hit innings and struck out seven. At one point, he retired 11 consecutive batters.

CF Gage Canning, Arizona St.: Canning had a monster 3-game series against Oregon as he went 10-for-13 with 2 home runs (one inside-the-park), 2 triples, 8 runs scored and 7 RBI. At one point, he recorded 8 consecutive hits against Oregon which was the third longest streak in ASU history. In one game, he also compiled 13 total bases which was the fourth highest total in ASU history.

LHP Chris Murphy, San Diego: Murphy struck out 14 batters in eight innings of work to lead the Toreros to an 8-2 win over Santa Clara. He only allowed one hit.

RHP Nick Sandlin, Southern Mississippi: Sandlin fanned 14 batters over seven innings against Texas-San Antonio as he surrendered 3 hits and no runs. He retired the first 10 batters of the contest.

OF Jonathan India, Florida: India belted 4 home runs, a triple and knocked in 6 runs as he went 8-for-14 over four games.

1B Jordan Verdon, San Diego St.: Verdon logged 6 doubles and drove in 9 runs over 4 games as he went 8-for-17 at the plate.

RF Trey Truitt, Mercer: Truitt hit 4 home runs and 2 doubles in 4 games last week with 14 RBI and 8 runs scored as he went 10-for-17 at the plate. He currently has a 13-game hitting streak. Truitt has at least two hits in seven straight contests.
