FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Florida St. (10-0) is ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball NCAA Div. I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew.
After 23 of the top 30 teams in the poll lost games last week, including previously No. 1 ranked LSU three straight at Texas, a major shakeup took place in the poll.
The Seminoles have been remarkable this season in Head Coach Mike Martin’s final season. FSU has outscored opponents 103-24 and averaged 10.3 runs per game with 20 home runs and 24 doubles. Over 10 games, FSU has only committed 2 errors and allowed opponents 3 stolen bases. The pitching staff has a 2.51 ERA and struck out 104 batters with 34 walks.
In key series across the USA, Texas swept LSU three straight at home, 8-1, 8-4 and 7-6, Stanford took two of three at Cal. St. Fullerton, N.C. State won three straight at home against Minnesota while South Carolina took two of three against Clemson.
Poll Notes: Despite uncharacteristic losses during the past week among top 30 teams, there are four teams still unbeaten in Tennessee (12-0, best start in school history), N.C. State (11-0, best start since 2004), Arizona St. (11-0) and Florida St. (10-0). Other teams with winning streaks include Mississippi St. (6), Washington (6), Texas (5) and Mississippi (5).
Four teams fell out of the top 30 in Texas Christian (1-2 last week), Cal. St. Fullerton (1-2), Sam Houston St. (1-2) and Oklahoma St. (1-2). New to the top 30 is Tennessee (12-0), Oklahoma (11-1), Miami, Fla. (9-2) and Washington (7-2).

1B Andrew Vaughn, California: In two games, Vaughn belted 4 home runs with 9 RBI and scored 5 runs. For the season, he is hitting .529 with 7 home runs, 18 RBI and 15 walks through 10 games.
RHP Tanner Burns, Auburn: Burns matched a single-game Auburn record with 15 strikeouts against Cincinnati. He only allowed 2 hits and walked none in the complete game.
RHP MD Johnson, Dallas Baptist: Johnson struck out a career-high 15 batters in 6 1/3 innings of work against Houston Baptist. He carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and only allowed 1 hit and 1 walk.
LHP Jared Shuster, Wake Forest: Shuster struck out 23 batters over 12 innings in two outings last week (Monday and 6 days later on Sunday). Against Furman, he allowed 1 hit over 7 innings with 0 runs and struck out a career-high 12 batters.
C Kyle McCann, Georgia Tech: McCann belted 3 home runs, 1 double and collected 10 RBI last week and walked 4 times while scoring 8 runs. In one game against Northwestern, he hit a grand slam which was part of a 7-RBI performance.
OF TJ Hopkins, South Carolina: Hopkins hit 3 home runs with 10 RBI over 4 games as he was 7-for-18 at the plate with 5 runs scored.
LHP Reid Detmers, Louisville: Detmers recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts and 1 hit in eight innings against James Madison. He worked 7 no-hit innings in his previous start against Brown and built his streak of consecutive hitless innings to 14 2/3 before a leadoff single in the eighth against James Madison. He has recorded 25 strikeouts in his last two outings.
C Aaron Kim, U.C. San Diego: Kim belted 3 home runs and 1 double as he went 6-for-14 at the plate with 10 RBI and 4 runs scored over four games against Sonoma St.
LHP Nick Lodolo, Texas Christian: Lodolo tied his career high with 13 strikeouts over 7 innings during a 10-6 win over Houston. He retired the first 14 batters he faced. The lone blemish on his line was a solo home run to lead off the seventh. He allowed only 3 base runners on 2 hits and a walk.
OF/P Ryan Olenek, Mississippi: Olenek hit .529 over 4 games as he went 9-for-17 with 4 doubles, 5 runs scored and 13 total bases. He also was 2-for-2 in stolen bases. As a pitcher, he fired a perfect ninth inning against Tennessee-Martin with 2 strikeouts.
RHP Nicholas Fraze, Texas St.: Fraze struck out 12 batters in 7 innings of work against Rice during a 1-0 victory. He only allowed 1 hit and had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings.
LHP Cole Kmet, Notre Dame: Kmet struck out 13 batters over 8 1/3 innings of work in two outings last week. He recorded a save against Charleston Southern with 2 strikeouts in one inning. Then he went 7 1/3 innings against Ball State and struck out a career-high 11 batters and did not surrender a walk.
RHP Kevin Abel, Oregon St.: Abel tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts during a 9-2 win over West Virginia. He only allowed 1 hit and 1 run in six innings of work.
LHP Mason Hazelwood, Kentucky: Hazelwood made his first career start against Northern Kentucky and struck out 11 over 6 innings and gave up only 1 hit and no runs. He retired the first 16 batters he faced.
RHP Dan Hammer, Pittsburgh: Hammer set a career-high in strikeouts with 11 over 6 innings against Butler. He leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with 29 total strikeouts.
RHP Drake Fellows, Vanderbilt: Fellows mowed down 13 batters over 6 innings, the most for a Commodore pitcher since Kyle Wright in 2017.
INF/RHP Sadler Goodwin, Troy: Goodwin belted 3 home runs home runs, including 3-run, 2-run and solo circuit clouts to help Troy to a series victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Prior to this week, he only had one homer in his career.
LF Kris Kremer, Penn State: Kremer hit the first 3 home runs of his career during an 8-7 win over Duke. He went 4-for-4 as collected 6 RBI and scored 3 runs. Kremer is the third Nittany Lion to ever hit 3 home runs in a game.
LHP Michael Jacob, Toledo: Jacob struck out a career-high 13 batters over 7 innings against Davidson. He only allowed 2 hits and 2 walks.
