ARKANSAS NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Arkansas (10-0) is ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
Last week, the Razorbacks won three at home against Murray St. and are undefeated through their first 10 games for only the third time in program history. The Hogs have only committed 5 errors in 10 games and are averaging 7.8 runs per contest with 36 extra base hits. The pitching staff has struck out 117 batters.
In key series over the past weekend, Oregon swept a 4-game series at U.C. Santa Barbara, Georgia Tech. took two of three at home against Louisville and Virginia Tech won two of three against North Carolina at home,
Poll Notes: Several teams have been red-hot. Southern Illinois has won 11 in a row, Arkansas, South Carolina and Oregon St. 10 straight while Arizona has won 9 consecutive and Texas Tech. 8 in a row.
Four teams fell out of the top 30 in Stetson (1-3 last week), Virginia (2-2), Auburn (1-2) and Pittsburgh (1-2). New to the top 30 is Southern Illinois (11-0, matched the 1967 record for the best start in program history), Oregon (6-2), Florida Atlantic (8-2) and Ball St. (6-4).

RHP Bryce Miller, Texas A&M: Miller fanned a career-high 15 New Mexico St. batters, including 12 in the first 5 innings, without yielding a walk. It was the highest total for an Aggie since Casey Fossum struck out 15 Baylor batters during the 1998 season. Miller combined with Chandler Jozwiak to fan 21 New Mexico St. batters, 1 strikeout shy of the school record 22 set last season against Army.
1B Garrett Kocis, Wichita St.: Kocis belted 5 home runs and posted 13 RBI over 4 games last week and scored 8 runs as he went 6-for-16 at the plate.
3B Tim Elko, Mississippi: Elko hit 5 home runs and collected 13 RBI over 5 games as he scored 8 runs. He recorded 10 hits over 5 games.
LHP Andrew Abbott, Virginia: Abbott struck out 14 Florida St. batters in 5 2/3 innings and only allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run. During the game, won by Florida St., 2-0, pitchers for both teams combined to strike out 29 total batters. Three Virginia pitchers struck out 18 Seminole hitters while Florida St. pitcher Parker Messick fanned 11 Virginia batters.
DH Kenyon Yovan, Oregon: Yovan hit 4 home runs with 11 RBI over a 4-game series against U.C. Santa Barbara with 11 RBI and 6 runs scored. He walked 6 times (4 intentional) as he went 7-for-15 at the plate.
RHP Ty Madden, Texas: Madden fanned 14 Houston batters as he only allowed 2 hits and 4 total base runners during a complete game. He struck out at least 1 batter in all 9 innings and struck out multiple batters in 4 different frames. All but 2 of Madden’s 14 strikeouts were swinging.
1B Caden Grice, Clemson: Grice hit 4 homers with 6 RBI and 7 runs scored as he went 6-for-13 at the plate.
RHP Dominic Hamel, Dallas Baptist: Hamel struck out a career-high 13 batters in 6 scoreless innings against Missouri. He only allowed 2 hits. In 16 2/3 innings this season, Hamel has struck out 30 batters for an average of 16.7 strikeouts per 9 innings.
1B Tyler Sanfilippo, Wagner: Sanfilippo belted 3 home runs in 2 games against Lafayette as he recorded 7 RBI and went 3-for-9 at the plate with 3 runs scored.
LHP Russell Smith, Texas Christian: Smith fanned a career-high 13 batters in only 6 innings of work during a 10-0 win over Texas St. He allowed only 2 hits.
OF Brock Jones, Stanford: Jones hit 3 home runs, 2 doubles, 1 triple and recorded 12 RBI as he went 8-for-18 in four games.
UT Matthew Christian, Campbell: Christian belted 2 grand slams during a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb. One came in the first inning of game one while the second came in the first inning of game two. He also posted 10 RBI on the day. He barely missed a third grand slam earlier in the week as he doubled off the top of the wall with the bases loaded at N.C. State to drive in 3 runs. For the week, he collected 14 RBI and had 4 hits in 4 games.
