UCLA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — UCLA (27-6) is ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball NCAA Div. I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew.
The Bruins, winners of six straight, swept a 3-game series at home against East Carolina over the weekend. This is the second straight week UCLA has been at the top of the poll. The Bruins are second in the nation with a staff ERA of 2.64. UCLA (9-3 in the Pac-12 Conference) is averaging 6.4 runs per game and has a .980 fielding percentage.
N.C. State tumbled from second to 11th after losing four straight games last week. The Wolfpack, second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 12-6 record, lost to Coastal Carolina and then was swept at home by Louisville.
Poll Notes: Several teams are red-hot. U.C. Santa Barbara has won 9 in a row, Miami (Ohio) 11 of its last 12, Louisiana Tech. 10 of 11, Nebraska 7 of 8 while Mississippi St, Louisville, Miami (Fla.) and Texas-Arlington have each won five straight.
In key matchups of ranked teams over the weekend that weren’t mentioned earlier, Stanford swept a 3-game series at home against Washington, Georgia lost two of three at Tennessee, Oregon St. took two of three at Arizona St., Vanderbilt won two of three at home against Arkansas, Louisiana St. lost two of three at Missouri while Mississippi St. swept three from Alabama at home.
Texas A&M took two of three at home against Auburn, Clemson was swept three straight at Florida St., U.C. Santa Barbara swept three at home against U.C. Irvine, Baylor won two of three at home against Oklahoma, Texas Tech. lost two of three against West Virginia, Louisiana Tech. won two of three against Florida Atlantic and Miami (Fla.) swept three at Virginia.
Seven teams fell out of the top 30 in Auburn (1-3 last week), Coastal Carolina (1-2), Texas (2-2), Michigan (2-3), Central Michigan (2-2), Sam Houston St. (2-2) and Southern Mississippi (1-3).
New to the top 30 is Louisiana Tech. (24-11), Miami, Fla. (25-12), Florida (24-14), Florida St. (22-13), Miami, Ohio (29-6), Texas-Arlington (24-13) and Nebraska (20-10).

RHP Ryan Shreve, Pacific: Shreve threw the fourth no-hitter in school history during a 1-0 complete game road victory over Santa Clara. He struck out a career-high 9 batters and allowed only one base runner with a hit-by-pitch. It was the first no-hitter for a Pacific pitcher since the 2001 season.
SS Spencer Steer, Oregon: Steer belted 3 home runs which included 2 grand slams as he collected 12 RBI over 4 games and went 9-for-19 at the plate. He also scored 5 runs.
RHP Conor Grady, Florida St.: Grady struck out 20 batters in two outings last week. Against Florida on Tuesday, he fanned 9 batters over 7 innings. Five days later against Clemson, he pitched 5 1/3 innings and fanned 11 more Tiger batters. Over 12 innings of work, he only allowed 3 hits and no earned runs with 1 walk.
RHP Alek Manoah, West Virginia: Manoah fired a 4-hit shutout against Texas Tech. with a career-high 15 strikeouts. It was the most strikeouts by a Mountaineer since the 2001 season. He has not allowed a run in his last 22 2/3 innings.
RF J.J. Bleday, Vanderbilt: Bleday hit 3 home runs with 10 RBI over four games last week as he went 7-for-11 at the plate. He also scored 10 runs and accounted for 17 total bases. Over his last 13 games, he has belted 9 home runs.
LHP Ethan Small, Mississippi St.: Of the 18 outs Small recorded over 6 innings, 15 were via the strikeout. At one point, Small struck out nine in a row as he earned his fourth win of the season during a 6-0 win over the Crimson Tide.
OF Yamil Pagan, Alabama St.: Pagan was 9-for-16 at the plate over 4 games as he hit 3 home runs, a triple, collected 11 RBI and scored 10 runs.
RHP Ryan Garcia, UCLA: Garcia struck out a career-high 13 batters during a 3-0 win over East Carolina and only allowed 3 hits.
LF Ryan Ward, Bryant: Ward collected 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 9 RBI and scored 7 runs as he went 12-for-22 at the plate over 5 games.
RHP Chase Walter, Western Carolina: Walter struck out a career-high 13 batters over 6 2/3 innings during a 11-7 win over Mercer.
