OREGON ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Oregon St. (38-9) is ranked No. 1 for the first time this season in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
The Beavers, first in the Pac-12 Conference with an 18-6 record, have won six straight, including 4 straight wins over Oregon last week. Oregon St., which has won 11 of its last 12 games, leads the nation with a .989 fielding percentage and has only committed 19 errors in 47 games. OSU has only allowed 20 stolen bases by opponents.
The Beavers are third in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio with 453 strikeouts and 110 walks.
Tennessee (42-6), ranked No. 1 for the previous six polls, slipped to second after losing two of three at Kentucky and three of its last six games. The Volunteers still lead the Southeastern Conference Western Division with a 20-4 record.
Poll Notes: In key series over the weekend, Arkansas won two of three at Auburn, Louisville won, lost and tied three games at Wake Forest, UCLA lost three straight at Washington, Arizona lost two of three at Southern California and also lost a home game to Grand Canyon earlier in the week, U.C. Santa Barbara took two of three at U.C. Irvine, Connecticut swept a 3-game series at home against Creighton, Stanford swept a 3-game series at home against California, Texas A&M won two of three at South Carolina, Vanderbilt won two of three at Georgia, Southern Mississippi lost two of three at Old Dominion, Ball St. won three at Kent St., Rutgers split two games against Maryland, Louisiana St. won two of three at Alabama, Florida St. won two of three at Boston College, Texas Christian lost two of three at Oklahoma and Florida swept a 3-game series at Mississippi St.
Several teams have been hot. Rutgers has won 11 straight, Connecticut (9), Oklahoma St. (7) and Oregon St. (6).
Three teams fell out of the top 30 in Oregon (lost 5 straight), N.C. State (1-2) and Georgia Tech. (lost 4 in a row).

RHP Juaron Watts-Brown, Long Beach St.: Watts-Brown fired the first complete game no-hitter in school history during a 4-0 win over U.C. Riverside. Over 9 innings, he fanned 16 batters and only walked 1. His 16 strikeouts were one shy of the program record.
RHP C.J. Mayhue, East Carolina and RHP Landon Gartman, Memphis: In one of the most amazing games in college baseball history, Mayhue didn’t surrender a hit for 9 innings while Gartman also didn’t allow a hit for 8 innings before both were pulled because of pitch counts. The score was 0-0 entering the 13th inning when East Carolina pushed across 4 runs and won, 4-1. Mayhue and Gartman did not figure into the decision but were brilliant. Mayhue struck out 9 batters with 1 walk over 9 innings and retired the final 18 batters he faced while Gartman fanned 10 batters in 8 frames.
DH Tyler Johnson, Coastal Carolina: Johnson belted 4 home runs with 2 doubles, 15 RBI and scored 6 runs as he went 7-for-13 at the plate.
OF/DH Max Ryerson, Georgia St.: Ryerson hit 4 home runs and collected 12 RBI as he scored 8 runs in 5 games. He leads the Sun Belt Conference with 18 homers and 52 RBI.
RHP Jacob Watters, West Virginia: Watters struck out 15 batters and walked 1 over 6 innings. It was the most strikeouts by a Mountaineer since 2019.
LHP Andy Bean, Belmont: Bean fanned a career-high 13 batters and allowed one walk during an 8-1 complete game win over Tennessee-Martin. He retired the last 9 batters he faced in order with 6 strikeouts.
3B Yohandy Morales, Miami (Fla.): Morales was 10-for-15 with 3 home runs and 9 RBI over a 3-game series with North Dakota St. He also had a double.
2B Nate Baez, Arizona St.: Baez went 8-for-14 with 3 homers, 6 runs scored and 8 RBI during a 3-game sweep of Utah. Seven of his eight RBI for the weekend came with two outs.
