Collegiate Baseball Div. I Poll (6-13-22)

STANFORD NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Stanford (47-16) is ranked No. 1 for the first time this season in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.

The Cardinal, which won its Super Regional over Connecticut, has won 22 of its last 24 games. Stanford has hit 117 home runs led by four players with 18 or more. The Cardinal has also hit 132 doubles with 7 players hitting 11 or more.

Tennessee, ranked No. 1 last week and 10 times during the season by Collegiate Baseball, was upset at the Knoxville Super Regional with two losses to Notre Dame. The Irish have won five of their six NCAA tournament games.

Another red-hot team is Texas, winners of 13 of its last 16 games. The Longhorns lead the nation with a .986 fielding percentage and hits with 740. Texas also is No. 2 in doubles (156), No. 3 in home runs (128) and fourth nationally with a .560 slugging percentage and fourth with 8 shutouts by its pitching staff.

Another hot ball club is Oklahoma which is fourth in the nation with 142 stolen bases. The Sooners have won 9 of their last 11 games.

Auburn surprised Oregon St. by winning the Corvallis Super Regional. The Tigers have won five of six games during the NCAA tournament.

Poll Notes: Four teams from the Southeastern Conference make up half of the field at the College World Series in Texas A&M, Arkansas, Auburn and Ole Miss. The eight teams that qualified for the College World Series are ranked 1-8 this week and teams that finished second at their Super Regionals are ranked 9-16.
