MIAMI, FLA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Miami, Fl.(29-5) is ranked No.1 for the second consecutive Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
The Hurricanes are in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 13-3 record. Miami has won 24 of its last 27 games and were 4-1 last week after beating Duke two of three on the road.
Poll Notes: Several teams of been red-hot lately. Texas Tech. has won 9 in a row, Texas A&M and Coastal Carolina 7 straight while Louisville, Creighton, Rice and Notre Dame have won 5 consecutive.
In key series over the past weekend, Texas A&M won 3 straight at Mississippi State, Louisville won 3 straight at home against Clemson, Vanderbilt won 2 of 3 at home against Kentucky, N.C. State won 2 of 3 at Georgia Tech. while Virginia won 2 of 3 at home against North Carolina.
Six teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Mississippi (1-3), Clemson (1-3), Lamar (1-3), Georgia Tech (1-3), New Mexico (3-2) and Stanford (2-2).
New to the poll this week are Minnesota, Virginia, Washington, Cal State Fullerton, Rice and Notre Dame.
The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1959 college baseball season.

NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
- RHP Shane McCarthy, Seton Hall: McCarthy threw the first perfect game in Seton Hall history during a 10-0 victory over LIU-Brooklyn. He struck out 8 and threw only 88 total pitches. His perfect game was the 25th in NCAA history since records started being kept in 1957.
- SS Greg Kaiser, IPFW: Kaiser had a monster week as he belted 5 home runs over four games. He was 11-for-17 with 10 RBI.
- RHP Aaron Quillen, Belmont: Quillen struck out a career-high 16 batters in 7 innings of work during a 15-0 win over Austin Peay. He allowed two hits and took a no-hitter into the 7th inning.
- OF L.J. Kalawaia, UNC-Greensboro: Kalawaia had 18 RBI over 5 games as he went 12-for-20 at the plate. He collected two home runs, two triples and one double.
- LHP Brooks Vial, Virginia Commonwealth: Vial turned in one of the best performances in school history as he struck out 15 batters in 6 innings of work against LaSalle during a 9-1 victory.
- RHP Jordan Sheffield, Vanderbilt: Sheffield struck out 14 batters during a complete game shutout against Kentucky. He recorded at least one strikeout in all nine innings, including striking out the side in the third inning.
- RHP Will Hibbs, Lamar: Hibbs struck out 14 batters over 8 innings during a 5-1 win over McNeese State.
