Collegiate Baseball Div. I Poll 6-8-15

LSU NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL 

Louisiana St. (53-10) is ranked No. 1 for the eighth straight week in the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.

The Tigers rolled through the Baton Rouge Super Regional with two consecutive wins over Louisiana-Lafayette and have won 13 of their last 15 games.

LSU has been an offensive powerhouse all season with 734 hits (No. 2 in the nation), .316 team batting average (No. 4), 141 doubles (No. 3) and 126 stolen bases (No. 3). The Tigers’ pitching staff has been outstanding as well with a 2.84 ERA (9th in the USA).

No. 2 Florida was highly impressive with 13-5 and 11-4 wins over Florida St. in the Gainesville Super Regional. The Gators have posted a season-high 9 wins in a row which includes an SEC Tournament title, Regional championship and a Super Regional win in three consecutive weeks.

The top eight teams in this week’s poll all won their Super Regionals and qualified for the College World Series, including defending national champion Vanderbilt. The Commodores, which swept Illinois two straight in its Super Regional, features three first round picks who were chosen in Monday’s MLB Draft in SS Dansby Swanson (first overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks), RHP Carson Fulmer (8th overall pick by the White Sox) and RHP Walker Buehler (24th overall pick by the Dodgers).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1959 college baseball season.
