BARBE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL HS POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) is ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball National High School Poll powered by Diamond Pro.

The Buccaneers are undefeated to kick off the 2023 campaign with a 17-0 record. They have outscored opponents 175-13 and recorded 10 shutouts. No opponent has scored over 3 runs against Barbe.

The team has a microscopic ERA of 0.65 and a .409 team batting average over 17 games. In addition, the Buccaneers have stolen 101 bases in 111 attempts.

In a 10-0 win over Zachary (LA), junior RHP Landon Victorian allowed two hits, gave up no runs or walks and struck out 12. Donovan La Salle belted a home run in the game and had 4 RBI.

LaSalle is leading the offense with a .600 batting average and 9 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 20 RBI and 13 stolen bases. Victorian is 3-0 on the season with a 0.47 ERA, no walks and 31 strikeouts in 15 innings.

Calvary Christian (Clearwater, FL) slipped to second with a 7-1 record. The Warriors lost a close 2-1 game against Bishop McLaughlin Catholic (Spring Hill, FL), but bounced back with a 14-1 victory over Clearwater Central Catholic.

In a 7-1 win over Lakeland Christian (FL), LHP Hunter Dietz tossed 4 2/3 innings and gave up no runs on 2 hits while striking out 11.

No. 3 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) kicked off its season with a 4-0 record. The Gaels have recorded 14 doubles over 4 games and have a team batting average of .434.

Top hitters include 1B Easton Shelton (.615, 4 2B, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 7 R), C Burke Mabeau (.583, 2 2B, 1 HR, 8 RBI), SS Maddox Riske (.500 BA) and CF Aiden Pollock (.462, 1 2B, 1 3B, 7 R).

Right-handed pitchers Kamdyn Perry and Kaden Soder lead the pitching staff with 12 strikeouts each. The Gaels are headed to the Boras Classic Arizona tournament next.

No. 4 Jesuit (Tampa, FL) remains undefeated with an 8-0 record. Coach Miguel Menendez won his 300th career game when Jesuit defeated Lakeland Christian, 11-6.

No. 5 Sinton (TX) is 13-1 after suffering a recent 5-2 loss to Canyon (TX) which broke the Pirates’ 44-game winning streak dating back to March 8, 2022.

In a 6-0 win over Tuloso Midway (Corpus Christi, TX), LHP Jaquae Stewart tossed a complete game (6 innings), allowing one hit, no runs, no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Stewart also threw a complete game 1-hitter in a 1-0 win over Smithson Valley. He struck out 10. Blake Mitchell leads the offense with a .400 batting average, 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 11 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

No. 6 Villa Park (CA) posted a 6-1 record. In an 8-2 win over Brea (CA), RHP Zach Brown threw 6 innings, allowing only 5 hits and striking out 8.

No. 7 Houston County (Warner Robins, GA) is 12-1 after going 3-1 in the Perfect Game High School Showdown. The only loss was to IMG Academy (FL), 13-1.

Coach Matt Hopkins captured his 100th victory when the Bears defeated Central Phenix (AL), 5-4. Leading the offense are Andrew Dunford (.571, 4 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 17 RBI), Eli Stephens (.474, 5 2B, 1 3B, 17 RBI) and Drew Burress (.405, 5 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 20 RBI).

No. 8 St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, MI) starts March 27.

New to the poll at No. 9 is Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, CA) at 8-1. The Knights recently took two out of three games against Chaminade (West Hills, CA) in Mission League play.

No. 10 Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, FL) remains undefeated with 8 wins. The Eagles defeated previously ranked Doral Academy, 3-0. RHP Christian Rodriguez gave up no runs on one hit and struck out 13 in 6 1/3 innings.

No. 11 Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, FL) joins the poll after posting a 9-0 record to start the season. The Mavericks won their second straight tournament with a first-place finish in the Perfect Game Showdown White Division and earlier the High School Baseball Network First Pitch Frenzy. They have wins over teams from Alabama, Mississippi and Texas.

No. 12 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) posted an 8-1 record. In a 7-1 win over Alhambra (Phoenix, AZ), RHP Josh Tiedemann pitched 5 scoreless innings. RHP Carson Johnson went 5 innings in a 10-1 win over Liberty (AZ) and fanned 5. The Huskies will play in the Boras Classic Arizona tournament next.

No. 13 Jackson Prep (Jackson, MS) has an 8-1 record. Their only loss this season was to Sparkman (Harvest, AL), 10-4.

The Patriots have outscored opponents 99-30 in 9 games. OF Rives Reynolds leads the offense with a .452 batting average, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, and 16 RBI.

No. 14 De La Salle (Concord, CA) kicked off its season with a 3-0 record. They defeated Folsom, 6-3, Clayton Valley Charter, 8-3 and Woodcreek, 8-0, all California schools. Against Woodcreek, RHP Jack Hershey struck out 9 in 5 innings.

No. 15 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, NJ) begins April 9.

No. 16 St. Xavier (Louisville, KY) starts March 14.

No. 17 Sulphur (LA) has a 10-1 record. In the last 6 games, they have recorded 4 shutouts and only allowed opponents 5 runs.

No. 18 Prestonwood Academy (Plano, TX) is the top team among Texas private schools with a 14-1-1 record.

Top hitters are Tarris Murry (.500, 3 HR, 21 RBI), Will Johnson (.429, 15 RBI) and Chris Patterson (.408, 15 RBI). On the mound, top pitchers include RHP Bennett Seal (5-0, 0.54 ERA) and LHP Xavier Mitchell (3-0, 1.80 ERA, 44 K). In a 10-0 win over Shiloh Christian, Mitchell struck out 13.

No. 19 Basic Academy (Henderson, NV) started its season with 3 wins. Against Durango (NV), LHP Ben Smith threw 6 shutout innings, giving up 2 hits and punching out 12 in an 8-0 victory. SS Tate Southisene belted a grand slam in the 9-1 win over Arbor View (NV).

New to the poll at No. 20 is Westlake (Austin, TX) at 16-1. The Chaparrals currently are ranked No. 1 in the latest Texas 6A poll. Their only loss was during a tournament to New Braunfels (TX), 4-2.

No. 21 Liberty North (MO) starts March 17.

No. 22 is Eastlake (Chula Vista, CA) with five straight wins to start the season. Recently the Titans posted shutouts against West Hills (Santee, CA), 9-0 and Steele Canyon (Spring Valley, CA), 3-0.

No. 23 Friendswood (TX) remains the top team in Texas 5A with a 12-2-2 record. Head Coach Cory Benavides captured his 100th coaching victory when the Mustangs defeated Alvin (TX), 2-1.

No. 24 Catholic (Baton Rouge, LA) is 12-1, suffering only a 2-0 loss to Loganville (GA). They recently defeated previously ranked Parkview (Lilburn, GA), 6-4 and swept 3 games from Dunham (Baton Rouge, LA).

After losing its first game of the season, No. 25 Blessed Trinity (Roswell, GA) has reeled off 15 straight wins for a 15-1 record. They have recorded 5 shutouts this season.

In a 9-0 win over Roswell (GA), RHP Evan O’Neill tossed 7 innings, giving up just 4 hits, no walks and struck out 9. The Titans swept Roswell in a 2-game series and Johns Creek in 3 games. They are 8-0 in regional play.

O’Neill leads the pitching staff with a 4-0 record, 0.26 ERA and 35 strikeouts followed by RHP Jake Lankie (3-0, 1.12 ERA, 29 K) and RHP Porter Buursema (3-1, 0.00 ERA, 40 K). Top hitters include Kade Kisz (.425, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 16 R), Cooper Milford (.348, 17 SB, 19 R) and Cole Harof (.419, 5 2B, 7 RBI).

No. 26 Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH) begins on March 25.

No. 27 Jesuit (Portland, OR) starts March 20.

No. 28 Aquinas (San Bernardino, CA) has a 4-1 record to start the season.

No. 29 Brother Rice (Chicago, IL) starts March 15.

No. 30 Edwardsville (IL) begins March 27.

Teams that fell out of the top 30 include JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, CA) 3-3, Berkeley Prep (Tampa, FL) 6-3, Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) 6-4-1, Parkview (Lilburn, GA) 6-3; Doral Academy (Doral, FL) 6-2, Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, CA) 7-3 and Owasso (OK) 1-2.

Other teams to watch include West Monroe (LA) 15-1, Santa Margarita (CA) 6-1, and Har-Ber (AR) 5-1.
