Collegiate Baseball HS Poll (3-26-19)

LAKE TRAVIS NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — With a 17-0 record, Lake Travis (Austin, TX) is ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball National High School poll presented by Diamond Pro.

The Cavaliers defeated Lehman (Kyle, TX), 8-7 which gave Head Coach Mike Rogers his 700th career victory. He has coached 27 years at four different high schools and took over the baseball program at Lake Travis in 2014.

With the exception of three games, the Cavaliers have kept opponents under 3 runs so far. The team has posted a .346 batting average with 30 doubles, 15 home runs, 171 runs and 65 stolen bases.

Leading the team are 3B/P Brett Baty (.590, 8 HR, 25 RBI, 0.00 ERA, 13 K, 8 IP, Texas commit) and RHP Jimmy Lewis (4-0, 39 K, 24 IP, .407 BA, LSU commit).

No. 2 Cypress, CA has moved to the top of most polls in California after posting a 13-1 record. The Centurions had quality wins over La Mirada, El Toro, Ayala and Orange Lutheran in the early part of the season and are now 2-0 in league games. They will begin play in the Boras Classic.

No. 3 Argyle, TX has posted 6 wins since losing a game to Southlake Carroll, TX, the only loss of the season. They are 18-1-1.

No. 4 Jesuit (Tampa, FL) enters the poll after starting with a 9-0 record. They have outscored opponents 103-21 and posted 4 shutouts.

No. 5 Saint Xavier (Louisville, KY) kicked off its season with 5 straight wins, including a 2-1 win over St. John Vianney (St. Louis, MO), Missouri’s pre-season No. 1 team, and a 7-2 victory over La Salle (Cincinnati, OH).

No. 6 Colleyville Heritage (Colleyville, TX) is 18-1 and hasn’t lost a game since losing 4-1 against Oak Ridge, TX. For the season, they have posted 7 shutouts and defeated defending 6A champs Southlake Carroll, 4-1. In that game, Bobby Witt went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and 2 RBI.

No. 7 New Hanover (Wilmington, NC) enters the poll with a 7-0 record. Leading the team are C Kyle Smith who is hitting .588 with a double, a triple, a home run, 10 RBI and 9 runs and LHP Blake Walston who is 3-0 with a 0.79 ERA, 40 strikeouts in 17.2 innings.

No. 8 Calvary Christian (Clearwater, FL) is 7-1 on the season. The only loss has been to Tampa Prep, FL, 2-0. It was Nolan Hudi’s first loss of his high school career. However a week later, he tossed his first no-hitter in a 7-inning, 3-0 win over Berkeley Prep (Tampa, FL). He struck out 12 and walked 2.

No. 9 Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, CA) is 11-1-1. They recently tied Alemany, CA, 4-1, putting their League record at 5-0-1. The Wolverines have a three-game series with Chaminade before heading to North Carolina to play in the National High School Invitational.

No. 10 Huntington Beach, CA posted a 12-2 record. They have won 6 games in the past three weeks and are ranked third in the Los Angeles Times ranking.

No. 11 American Heritage (Plantation, FL) started with a 9-1 record. In a 15-0 win over Stranahan, Gavin Casas hit 2 doubles and Justin Quintana belted a home run. This week the Patriots will head off to the Spring Break Tournament in Jacksonville, FL.

No. 12 Cypress Ranch (Cypress, TX) is 18-2 and on a 12-game win streak with the last 5 games being shutouts by its pitching staff. All total, they have posted 9 shutouts.

No. 13 Georgetown, TX posted an 18-2-1 record. Ty Tilson went 3-for-3 in a 16-0 win over Elgin, TX, driving in 5 runs. He hit 2 doubles, a triple and sacrifice fly in the game. In that same game, Jack Brinley went 4 innings, allowing 3 hits, no runs, striking out 7 and walked one.

No. 14 Owasso, OK is 13-3 and is currently on a spring break trip to Florida where the Rams are 3-2 so far against Florida teams.

No. 15 George County (Lucedale, MS) recently dropped two games against Hattiesburg, MS and are now 14-2, breaking a 14-game win streak for the season.

No. 16 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) is 10-2 overall, 6-0 in the Trinity League with 3 wins each over Santa Margarita and St. John Bosco.

No. 17 Parkview (Lilburn GA) posted a 14-2 record and is the No. 1 team in Georgia’s 7A. Leading the offense is Jonathan French (.545, 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 10 RBI and 7 runs). Cameron Orr tossed a complete game (6 innings) in an 11-1 win over Hoover. He allowed 4 hits, one unearned run and struck out 5. In a 9-0 win over Norcross, Miles Garret went 6 innings and allowed 5 hits, no runs, struck out 11 and walked none.

No. 18 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL) is 10-1. After losing the first game of the season to Cypress Bay, the team has won 10 straight.

No. 19 Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) has an 11-2 record. Four of the last 5 games have been shutouts against Serra 10-0, Archbishop Riordan 25-0, Bellarmine College Prep 2-0 and Saint Francis 6-0.

No. 20 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) posted a 21-2 record. The Buccaneers currently have an 13-game win streak going that includes 3 shutout victories.

No. 21 Sam Houston (Lake Charles, LA) started the season with a 16-game win streak which was broken with a 5-1 loss to Zachary. In the next 7 games, the Broncos dropped two more games to post a 21-3 record.

No. 22 La Cueva (Albuquerque, NM) is 9-1 to start the season. In a 2-1 win over Sandia, RHP Ben Schoneman threw a one-hitter, allowing one unearned run and recording 16 strikeouts.

No. 23 St. Laurence (Burbank, IL) kicked off its season with a 4-0 start. Of the 4 games, two have been shutouts and they have scored 27 total runs. Pitcher Max Engstrom recorded 11 strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Jones. The Vikings will be facing tough competition when they meet Lincoln-Way Central, IL (5-0).

No. 24 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) is 11-4 overall. The Huskies lost the title game of the Boras Classic Arizona to Corona Del Sol, AZ, 6-5; however, they avenged the loss in a divisional game by beating Corona, 3-0. The tournament games do not count in the power ratings in Arizona. LHP Shane Murphy went the distance in the victory, allowing just three hits, struck out 8 and walked none.

No. 25 Jackson (Massillon, OH) began its season with an 11-0 win over Boardman (Youngstown, OH).

No. 26 Mountain Vista (Highlands Ranch, CO) fell in the poll after posting a 6-2 record. In the Boras Classic Arizona, the Golden Eagles lost to Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) 12-1 and Mesquite, AZ, 13-3. They returned to Colorado and local competition, defeating Arvada West, 10-7 and Lakewood 4-0.

No. 27 Palo Verde (Las Vegas, NV) is 7-1 with three recent wins over Utah teams, American Fork, 10-5, Pleasant Grove, 2-1 and Spanish Fork, 4-3.

No. 28 Delbarton School (Morristown, NJ) will begin its season on March 30 at the National High School Invitational in North Carolina.

No. 29 Har-Ber (Springdale, AR) dropped in the poll after posting an 10-3 record. After suffering two losses in mid-March against Bentonville, AR, Har-Ber posted wins over Madison Academy, AL 6-3, Decatur, AL 7-1, Claremore, OK 5-2 and Brentwood Academy, TN 5-3.

No. 30 Blessed Trinity (Roswell, GA) has a 14-3 record after posting a 5-0 loss to IMG Academy, FL. They have several more games before heading off to the National High School Invitational in N.C.

Dropped from the poll are Vestavia Hills, AL 14-5, Farragut (Knoxville, TN) 5-2, Yucaipa, CA 9-3, The Woodlands, TX 15-4 and Loganville, GA 11-4.

Teams to watch include Doral Academy (Doral, FL) 8-0, Christian Brothers (St. Louis, MO) 5-0 and Desert Oasis (Las Vegas, NV) 10-2.
