Collegiate Baseball HS Poll (5-10-22)


TUCSON, Ariz. — St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, MI) is ranked No. 1 for the seventh straight Collegiate Baseball National High School Poll presented by Diamond Pro.

The Eaglets (25-0) have a 47-game winning streak dating back to May 1, 2021. St. Mary’s pitchers have thrown five shutouts in the last 8 games and 11 in 25 games so far.

In two wins over University of Detroit Jesuit HS, St Mary’s pitchers threw two combined no-hitters. Brock Porter and Anthoni Kiafoulis combined in game 1 for a 17-1 win while Parker Brzustewicz and Brandon Skorupski pitched in game 2 for an 8-0 victory.

The Eaglets have outscored opponents, 237-30.

No. 2 Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, FL) is 25-2 after beating Coral Glade (FL), 12-2 and Taravella (FL), 5-0 for the district championship. The Eagles will face West Broward in the Florida 7A Regional quarterfinals.

Roman Anthony belted his 10th homer in a game against Coral Glades while Jake Clemente won his ninth game of the season, going 5 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 9. Christian Rodriguez pitched the last two innings in the 5-0 win over Taravella. It was his 4th save of the season.

No. 3 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) is 24-4 and wrapped up the regular season by defeating Santa Margarita (CA) all three games of the series. They advance to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 to play Bonita (CA). Mikey Romero went 7-for-8 with a home run during the 3-game Santa Margarita series and 8 RBI.

No. 4 Sumrall (MS), 31-1, is trying to reach the championship game of Mississippi’s 4A state tournament. They beat Greene County (Leakesville, MS), 5-3 in the third round and advance to play Northeast Jones next. Earlier the Bobcats lost a game to Greene County which broke a 29-game win streak.

No. 5 Providence (Charlotte, NC) completed the regular season with a 26-0 record. They won the Southwestern 4A Conference tournament by defeating East Mecklenburg (NC), 6-0 and Butler (NC) for the title, 6-0.

No. 6 Calvary Christian (Clearwater, FL) completed its season 25-1 and advances to the Florida 3A Regional Quarterfinals to play Clearwater Central. In a 2-0 victory over River Ridge (New Port Richey, FL), Liam Peterson and Hunter Dietz combined for a no-hitter.

No. 7 Rockwall-Heath (Rockwall, TX) is 25-4 and has advanced to the Area playoffs in the Texas 6A playoffs. They defeated Garland (TX), 20-1 and 10-1 and face Lake Ridge (Mansfield, TX) in a three-game series.

No. 8 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) is 30-2 as the Gaels advance to play Coronado (NV) in the quarterfinals of the Nevada 5A Southern Region playoffs. In a 12-4 win over Arbor View (NV), Demitri Diamant hit two home runs and Justin Crawford belted one.

No. 9 Blythewood (SC) sailed through its region games and into the playoffs. They beat Nation Ford (Fort Mill, SC), 8-1 for the South Carolina 5A Upper District 4 title. The Bengals are 28-1. They defeated Nation Ford, 10-0 in 5 innings earlier in the tournament with a 6-run second inning. Davis Wright one-hit the Falcons, striking out six and walking one in 4 1/3 innings.

No. 10 Tompkins (Katy, TX) is 27-1 as they advance to the Texas 6A playoffs to play a three-game series against Lamar (Houston, TX). They won their district and defeated Fort Bend Elkins, 12-0 and 5-2 in the first round of the playoffs.

No. 11 Central Martinsburg (Martinsburg, PA) is finishing up the regular season undefeated at 17-0. They recently won four conference games against Bishop Carroll, 15-0, Penn Cambria, 14-4 and Bedord, 10-0 and 20-0.

No. 12 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) was knocked out in the Quarterfinals of the Louisiana 5A state playoffs by St. Amant (LA). The Buccaneers lost 8-1, won the second game 5-0 and lost the final game, 5-4 and finished the season, 36-4.

No. 13 The First Academy (Orlando, FL) won its District championship and will face Trinity Prep in the Florida 3A Regional Quarterfinals. They are 24-3. In the last 9 games, TFA has outscored opponents 98-2 with 7 shutouts.

No. 14 North Oconee (Bogart, GA) is 33-1 and has advanced to the third round of the Georgia 4A state playoffs. They defeated Mays, 15-0 and 12-0 in the first round and Columbus, 5-3 and 12-0 in the second round.

This season featured a 30-game win streak. The team has a .400 batting average with 108 doubles and 29 home runs. The pitching staff has a 1.63 team ERA with 327 strikeouts, 78 walks in 205 innings. Top pitchers include RHP Ben Stuart (10-0, 1.47 ERA, 66 K) and LHP Andrew Arnold (10-1, 1.35 ERA, 56 K).

No.15 American Heritage (Plantation, FL) is 24-1 and has advanced to the Florida 5A Regional Quarterfinals. They will face Pembroke Pines Charter (FL).

No. 16 Villa Park (CA) is 25-4 and in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championships. They will face San Dimas (CA).

No. 17 Reno (NV) wrapped up the regular season with a 26-3 record and will begin the Northern Nevada Regional tournament. In a 6-0 win over McQueen, Eric Nachtsheim tossed a complete game shutout for his 10th win of the season.

No. 18 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) is 25-4. A 5-0 loss to Chaparral (Scottsdale, AZ) knocked the Huskies into the loser’s bracket of the Arizona 6A state baseball championships. They defeated Corona del Sol, 9-3 and Tucson High, 13-7 and will face Queen Creek next to stay alive in the tournament.

No. 19 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA) is 26-3 and has advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championships. They defeated Simi Valley (CA), 6-1 and will faced Pacifica next.

No. 20 W.B. Ray (Corpus Christi, TX), 31-3, won its district and defeated Martin (Laredo, TX), 6-0, 2-0 and 2-0 in the first round of the Texas 5A Region 4 playoffs. They will play Veterans Memorial next.

No. 21 Legacy (Broomfield, CO) is 17-1. A 5-2 loss to Broomfield (CO) broke a 16-game winning streak.

No. 22 Berkeley Prep (Tampa, FL) is 24-3 and advances to the Florida 3A Regional Quarterfinals where they will face Cardinal Mooney (FL) next.

No. 23 Edwardsville (IL) struggled recently with three losses and is 24-3. In the Tiger Baseball Classic, they went 2-1, losing to Teutopolis, 2-0 and Chatham Glenwood, 3-0.

No. 24 Allatoona (Acworth, GA) is 31-4 and advanced to the Georgia 6A state playoffs. In the quarterfinal round, they lost to South Effingham, 5-3 and won the next two games, 7-1 and 3-0.

No. 25 Northwest Rankin (Brandon, MS) is in the Final Four of the Mississippi 6A state championships with a 30-2 record.

No. 26 Hanover (Mechanicsville, VA) is 13-2 on the season with recent wins over Virginia schools Freeman, 12-0, Henrico, 17-0, Atlee, 7-0 and Varina, 13-1.

No. 27 Buchanan (Clovis, CA) ended the regular season 22-4 and will advance to the post-season.

No. 28 Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, AL) is 28-4-1 and has advanced to the semi-finals of the Alabama 7A state championships where they will face Vestavia.

In a 3-0 win over James Clemens in the quarterfinals, Baker Green threw a 2-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts.

No. 29 is Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH) with an 18-2 record.

No. 30 Nixa (MO) is 27-3. The regular season wraps up by mid-May.

Teams that fell out of the top 30 include St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park, FL) and Trinity (Louisville, KY).
