Collegiate Baseball HS Poll (5-7-19)


TUCSON, Ariz. — Argyle (Argyle, TX) remains No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball National High School Poll powered by Diamond Pro.

The Eagles (31-1-1) have captured 19 games in a row and won the first round of the Texas 4A Region 1 tournament against Stephenville, TX 7-3 and 5-1. They will face Graham, TX next. In the 7-3 win over Stephenville, RHP Chad Ricker tossed 6 innings and struck out 11.

Argyle was the No. 1 pre-season pick after rolling to a 37-0 record last season.

The Eagles have only lost one game this season to Southlake Carroll (TX) in March and tied a game in February with Corpus Christy Ray (TX). Argyle has only lost once in its last 70 games.

No. 2 DeSoto Central (Southaven, MS) posted a 30-2 record, reaching 30 wins for the first time in school history. With two wins over Warren Central, MS 5-3 and 14-7 and two wins over Oxford, MS 4-0 and 8-4, DeSoto advances to the North Half championship series (semi-finals) of the state playoffs.

In the last 9 games, the offense has been led by Blaze Jordan (.655, 6 HR, 16 RBI) and Kyle Booker (.419, 15 RS). Top pitchers for the season are Cade Smith (8-1, 0.89 ERA, 19 BB, 71 K, 47 IP) and Will Logsdon (4-0, 1.00 ERA, 28 IP).

No. 3 Georgetown, TX posted a 32-2-1 record after winning Bi-District games against Weiss, TX 13-0 and 13-0. The Eagles will meet College Station, TX in the Regional Area playoffs.

No. 4 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) posted a 26-4 record after beating San Clemente, CA 3-0 in the first round of the CIF Division 1 Southern Section. The Lancers are No. 1 in several state and area rankings.

No. 5 New Hanover (Wilmington, NC) is 20-1 overall and finished the regular season undefeated (14-0) in conference for the first time in over a decade. They outscored opponents 145-26.

LHP Blake Walston leads the pitching staff with a 0.27 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings. Senior C/3B Kyle Smith hit .545 with 9 extra base hits and 24 RBI. He also has committed no errors this season.

No. 6 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) has a 36-3 record and is in the semi-finals of the Louisiana 5A state playoffs and will play West Monroe next. The Buccaneers beat Chalmette 5-0, Central (Baton Rouge) 5-1 and 7-2 and Acadiana 3-2 and 3-2 in post-season play.

Sophomore Jack Walker is 3-0 in five playoff games. Top hitters include Brody Drost (.364, 6 HR, 30 RBI) and Davis Meche (.352, 3 HR, 34 RBI).

No. 7 Cypress Ranch (Cypress, TX) is 28-3-1 after defeating Hendrickson (Pflugerville, TX), 3-2 and 1-0 in the Bi-District games. They will meet Klein Collins (Spring, TX) in the next level of the playoffs.

No. 8 Cypress, CA posted a 27-3 record after going 10-0 in Empire League play and beating Servite, CA 5-2 in the first round of the CIF playoffs. They will meet Capistrano Valley in the second round.

No. 9 De La Salle (Concord, CA) posted a 23-1 record after going 13-0 in the East Bay League. They start the North Coast Division 1 Sectional playoffs.

No. 10 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL) ended its regular season with a 20-3 record. Recently the Raiders handed Nova (Davie, FL) its first loss of the season, 13-3. They will begin the state playoffs soon.

No. 11 Blanchard, OK completed its regular season with a 36-0 overall record and went 12-0 in district play. They will meet Berryhill (Tulsa, OK) in the first round of the Oklahoma 4A state playoffs.

No. 12 Lake Travis (Austin, TX) posted a 29-3 record after defeating Smithson Valley (Spring Branch, TX) 9-1 and 1-0 in the first round of the Texas 6A Region 4 playoffs. They will meet Brandeis (San Antonio, TX) next.

No. 13 Colleyville Heritage (Colleyville, TX) has a 30-2 record after defeating Ryan (Denton, TX) 10-4 to advance in the Texas 5A Region 1 playoffs.

No. 14 Mosley (Lynn Haven, FL) completed its regular season 21-3 and will begin the Florida 6A state playoffs.

Farragut (Knoxville, TN) returns to the poll at No. 15 after completing its regular season with a 33-2 record. The Admirals have won 25 straight games and is 12-0 in district play. They have not lost a game to a Tennessee team and have posted a 1.73 team ERA.

No. 16 is Cherry Hill West (Cherry Hill, NJ) which knocked out Delbarton, NJ for the No. 1 spot by They are one of the few teams undefeated in South New Jersey with a 14-0 record. They scored a big win over Shawnee, 6-2 and earned a No. 1 seed in the upcoming Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic.

No. 17 Sam Houston (Lake Charles, LA) is 35-4 and is in the semi-finals of the Louisiana 5A state playoffs. The Broncos will meet Parkway (Bossier City, LA) next. In 5 playoff games, they defeated Southwood 13-0, Denham Springs 12-0 and 2-0 and Destrehan 8-5 and 4-0.

No. 18 Mountain Vista (Highlands Ranch, CO) is 18-2. They have a 13 game win streak and recently defeated Rock Canyon 12-2, Douglas County 11-0 and Castle View 4-3.

No. 19 Benedictine (Richmond, VA) saw its 19-game winning streak snapped. They posted a loss to Miller 9-5 and later lost another game to Paul VI 5-4. They are 23-2 overall.

No. 20 Parkview (Lilburn, GA) is 30-4 and have won the first two rounds of the Georgia 7A state playoffs. They beat Peatchtree Ridge, 2-1 and 6-0 and North Forsyth, 8-6 and 13-0. They will meeting Walton in the quarterfinals.

No. 21 Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, OH) posted a 16-1 record, but rain has caused havoc. Their last game was against Brunswick which they won, 8-1.

No. 22 St. Laurence (Burbank, IL) has a 24-2 record after splitting a big series against St. Rita (Chicago, IL). They lost the first game, 8-7 in 8 innings and won the second game, 4-3. They recently defeated Providence, 6-3 and 10-7 and Brother Rice, 4-3.

No. 23 Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) clinched the West Catholic Athletic League regular season title with a 5-0 win over St. Ignatius. They will meet Archbishop Riordan in the WCAL tournament next.

No. 24 Bryant, AR completed the regular season with a 27-4 record. The 6A state playoffs are next. Bryant, which is the top team in the division, received a bye for the first round.

No. 25 Malvern Prep (Malvern, PA) has a 23-4 record with several weeks to go before the state tournament begins.

No. 26 Delbarton (Morristown, NJ) dropped in the poll after being surpassed by Cherry Hill West in the regional polls. They are 13-3.

No. 27 Saint Xavier (Louisville, KY) remains the top team in Kentucky’s Region 7 with a 19-4 record. There are plenty of games yet to be played in the regular season before the state playoffs begin.

No. 28 Mesquite (Gilbert, AZ) remains the top team in Arizona’s 4A with a 27-4 record. They defeated Flagstaff 7-1, Estrella Foothills 14-4 and Seton Catholic 6-2 so far in the state championship tournament. They are scheduled to meet Seton Catholic for a second time.

No. 29 Nogales, AZ enters the poll after posting a 25-4 record. The Apaches are hoping for a 3-peat title in Arizona’s 5A. They beat Sunnyside 11-2, Verrado 10-1 and Desert Mountain 5-2 to advance. They will play Desert Mountain again in the semi-finals.

No. 30 Owasso, OK returns to the poll with a 34-5 record. The Rams defeated Collinsville 13-2 to win the Regional Tournament. To get to the title game, they posted three shutouts against Union, 7-0, Sand Springs, 5-0 and 7-0. The Rams have a 15-game win streak heading into the state tournament where they will meet Edmond Santa Fe in the first round.

Teams that fell out of the top 30 include Jesuit (Tampa, FL) 20-5; Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, CA) 24-5-1; Rio Rancho (NM) 21-5, Calvary Christian (Clearwater, FL) 19-4 and American Heritage (Plantation, FL) 18-5.

Teams to watch include Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, CA) 24-6; Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) 24-6; Mountain View (Mesa, AZ) 25-5; The Woodlands (TX) 26-5; St. Rita (Chicago, IL) 22-4; Desert Oasis (Las Vegas, NV) 26-6; and The Bolles School (Jacksonville, FL) 22-2.
