Collegiate Baseball HS Poll (1-23-23)


TUCSON, Ariz. — Calvary Christian High School (Clearwater, FL) is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball’s 2023 National H.S. Pre-Season Poll presented by Diamond Pro.

The Warriors, which posted a 26-2 record last season, feature three pitchers who are potential first round picks in the 2023 MLB Draft in RHP/SS Landen Maroudis, LHP Hunter Dietz and RHP/DH Liam Peterson. All three are Collegiate Baseball first team pre-season All-Americans.

Calvary Christian has 10 players who have committed to NCAA Div. I universities along with other terrific athletes who have committed to other colleges.

They include:

  • RHP/SS Landen Maroudis, 96 mph FB, 7-1, 0.67 ERA, 44 K, 19 BB (N.C. State).
  • LHP Hunter Dietz, 95 mph FB, 8-1, 0.49 ERA, 73 K, 13 BB (Arkansas).
  • RHP/DH Liam Peterson, 96 mph FB, 5-0, 0.75 ERA, 68 K, 20 BB (Florida).
  • LHP/OF Justin Mayes, (Notre Dame).
  • OF Blake Opie (South Florida).
  • C Andrew Tess (Pittsburgh).
  • 2B/SS Jace Kohler (High Point).
  • LHP Grayson Gibson (Ole Miss).
  • 1B Cameron Uzzillia (N.C. State).
  • RHP JT Long (Polk State).
  • RHP Jaden Carlson (Covenant College).
  • LHP Paul Guerne (New York University).
  • OF/C Alex Monile (Florida State College).

The Warriors not only have a wealth of talent but have 12 seniors on the squad along with 5 juniors.

Last season, Calvary Christian had a microscopic team ERA of 0.51 as the staff struck out 286 batters and walked only 71 with no extra base hits allowed in 28 games.

On offense, the Warriors hit .363 with 55 doubles, 19 triples and 20 homers. Hitters were walked 139 times with 41 hit by pitches and 44 stolen bases.

On defense, Calvary Christian only committed 15 errors all season over 28 games and posted a .978 fielding percentage.

“By the end of the 2023 season, we could have upwards of 14-15 players sign with colleges,” said Calvary Christian Head Coach Greg Olsen.

“Our team should have a superb pitching staff led by our top three pitchers in Landen Maroudis, Hunter Dietz and Liam Peterson. Depending on the source, all three of them have been projected to be first round picks in the 2023 MLB Draft.

“We have never had three pitchers drafted in the first round of any MLB Draft.”
