FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Florida St. University has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's latest NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Seminoles swept Virginia in a 3-game series over the past weekend and have won five straight in rolling to a 19-3 overall record (3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference mark).
Florida St. has been ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball poll four of the last five weeks. Last week's No. 1 team, Rice, stumbled with a 2-2 record with a 5-1 loss to Lamar, 5-4 loss to San Diego St. in 12 innings before winning the final two games against the Aztecs, 9-7 and 11-3. Florida St. is hitting .330 as a team and averaging nine runs per contest. The pitching staff has a 2.53 ERA with a strikeout to walk ratio of nearly 3:1 (226 strikeouts and 78 walks).
POLL NOTES: Several teams have been red-hot. The longest winning streak of top 30 teams is Florida Atlantic with 14 straight. Texas Tech has won 13 of its last 14 while Cal. St. Fullerton has won 7 straight. North Carolina continues to roll with a 17-1 overall record. Two teams fell out of the poll this week in Illinois (2-2 last week) and Hawaii (0-3).
The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
RHP Mike MacDougal, Wake Forest: MacDougal tossed the first no-hitter in 60 years for Wake Forest to lead the Demon Deacons to a 5-0 win over Duke. He was in total command as he allowed only two batters to reach base, both via walks. He also recorded five strikeouts. The no-hitter was the first since opening day of the 1939 season when three Wake Forest pitchers combined to no-hit Springfield College. MacDougal's effort was only the second individual no-hitter in Demon Deacon history.
C/DH Russ Jacobson, Miami (Fla.): Jacobson went 6-for-6 with 4 home runs, one double, 6 RBI and 7 runs scored and one walk over a 3-game span last week. With 19 total bases, he posted a slugging percentage of 3.167. He tied a single-game school record for home runs (3), total bases (13) and runs scored (5), while becoming the first player in school history to homer in four consecutive at bats.
RHP Adam Johnson, Cal. St. Fullerton: Johnson struck out a career-high 15 New Mexico St. batters as the Titans won, 12-4. He struck out the first five batters he faced on his way to an 8-inning, 8-hit performance. He walked only one.
