FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Florida St. University has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's latest NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Seminoles swept North Carolina St. in a 3-game series over the past weekend and have won 10 straight in rolling to a 24-3 overall record (6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference mark). Florida St. has been ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball poll five of the last six weeks. Florida St. is hitting .329 as a team and averaging nine runs per contest. The pitching staff has a 2.58 ERA with a strikeout to walk ratio of nearly 3:1 (270 strikeouts and 95 walks).

POLL NOTES: Several other teams have been red-hot. The longest winning streak of top 30 teams is Florida Atlantic with 19 straight. Texas Tech has won 18 of its last 19 while Cal. St. Fullerton has won 11 straight, and Alabama 13 of its last 14. Two other teams worth noting are Southern California (winners of 7 of its last eight) and Oral Roberts (10 wins in a row). Florida International took the biggest tumble in the poll this week after losing four straight games last week (13th to unranked). Nebraska makes its first appearance in the poll in years after rolling to a 16-6 overall record (5-1 Big 12) and 7 wins in a row. The Cornhuskers have scored 132 runs in its last 7 games for an average of 18.8 per contest. It includes a 50-3 win over Chicago State last week which set an NCAA Div. I record for runs in one game by one team.
