MIAMI (FLA.) NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — The Miami Hurricanes have been ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll after sweeping Florida State in a 3-game series over the past weekend in Miami, Fla.
The Hurricanes have beaten Florida State five of six games over the last two weekends, including five straight. Florida State has now dropped five straight games for the first time since the 1984 season. The Seminoles slipped to fourth this week.
POLL NOTES: Several teams have been red hot lately. Rice and Ohio State have each won 11 straight. The Buckeyes have won 25 of their last 26 contests and have rolled to a 15-1 record in Big Ten Conference play. No other team in school history has gone 15-1 in their first 16 Big Ten games. Rice swept Hawaii in Honolulu over the past weekend. It marked the first time since the 1997 season that the Rainbows have been swept at home. Virginia Commonwealth is back in the poll this week after winning 10 straight. Cal. St. Fullerton has been hot with 7 consecutive victories.
The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
P Brian Graham, Portland: Graham hurled a 1-hitter against San Francisco in a 3-0 win. He struck out a career-high 11 batters and walked only two. He had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings.
SS Jake Brunner, North Central Texas College: In four games last week, he belted 5 home runs, including 4 in one game against Ranger J.C. as he collected 9 hits in 17 at bats. He also had 2 doubles and knocked in 13 runs. He had a slugging percentage of 1.529 and a batting average of .529.
RHP Marco Hanlon, Cal. St. Fullerton: Hanlon pitched the equivalent of a 1-hit, 10-strikeout shutout last week while pitching to 29 men. He picked up two victories in two road relief appearances. Against Loyola Marymount, he pitched three innings and didn't allow a run with four strikeouts. Three days later against U.C. Santa Barbara, he pitched 6 innings without allowing a run and struck out six with only one hit and one walk.
1B/P Larry Bowles, Virginia Tech.: Bowles led led Tech with his bat and arm as he belted 3 home runs with 10 RBI and 7 runs scored. On the mound against Dayton, he tossed a 4-hit (all singles) shutout. Only one runner advanced as far as second base. He struck out eight batters and did not issue a walk.
LF Chris Peters, Potomac State College: Peters belted 5 homers in six games last week with 14 RBI and 12 runs scored. He was 12-for-20 at the plate as he batted .600.
