MIAMI (FLA.) NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Miami Hurricanes have been ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll after sweeping Florida State in a 3-game series over the past weekend in Miami, Fla.

The Hurricanes have beaten Florida State five of six games over the last two weekends, including five straight. Florida State has now dropped five straight games for the first time since the 1984 season. The Seminoles slipped to fourth this week.

 

POLL NOTES: Several teams have been red hot lately. Rice and Ohio State have each won 11 straight. The Buckeyes have won 25 of their last 26 contests and have rolled to a 15-1 record in Big Ten Conference play. No other team in school history has gone 15-1 in their first 16 Big Ten games. Rice swept Hawaii in Honolulu over the past weekend. It marked the first time since the 1997 season that the Rainbows have been swept at home. Virginia Commonwealth is back in the poll this week after winning 10 straight. Cal. St. Fullerton has been hot with 7 consecutive victories.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
