College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (March 30, 2009) GEORGIA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Georgia (22-3) has been ranked No. 1 for the third time this season and second week in a row in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Bulldogs swept a 3-game series at Tennessee and have now won seven consecutive Southeastern Conference games. Georgia has won eight of its last nine games overall. The Bulldogs are hitting .329 as a team with 47 homers, 62 doubles and 36/45 stolen bases in 25 games. The pitching staff has a 3.51 ERA with 238 strikeouts and 85 walks. POLL NOTES: Several other teams have been red-hot. Cal. St. Fullerton has won 17 of its last 19 games and remains second. Georgia Tech. won two of three at Miami, Fla. Arkansas is off to a superb 19-5 record and 8-1 SEC mark as the Razorbacks moved from ninth to fourth this week. U.C. Irvine swept a 3-game series at home against Cal Poly. Oklahoma St. has won four straight, and New Mexico St. five in a row. Five teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Coastal Carolina (1-3 last week), Alabama (1-3), Pepperdine (0-5), U.C. Santa Barbara (1-3) and College of Charleston (2-2). New teams in the poll this week include Texas A&M (5 wins in a row), Oregon St. (7 wins in last 8 games), San Diego St. (won two of three at Texas Christian), East Carolina (won 10 of last 11) and San Diego (swept a 3-game series against Pepperdine and have won 10 of its last 11).
