College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (May 11, 2009) U.C. IRVINE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — U.C. Irvine (37-11) has been ranked No. 1 for the fourth straight time in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Anteaters, which have won 18 of their last 20 games and seven in a row, lead the Big West Conference with a 17-1 record. POLL NOTES: Several other teams have been red-hot. Arizona St. won five straight last week and is first in the Pac-10 with a 16-5 mark. Alabama made a big move in the poll after sweeping three games from Arkansas and moving to second in the Southeastern Conference with a 17-9 record as the Crimson Tide jumped from 23rd a week ago to 10th this week. Another red-hot team is Missouri which has won 10 of its last 12 conference games and sits in second in the Big 12 Conference with a 16-11 record. The Tigers are 14th this week. Five teams fell out of the top 30 in Oregon St. (2-2 last week, now in a tie for fourth in the Pac-10), Kansas (2-2), Illinois (2-3), Kent St. (1-3), and Ohio St. (2-3). New to the poll is Missouri, Minnesota (won 6 of last 7, first place in Big Ten with 15-5 record), Louisville (won 7 of last 8), Texas St. (won 6 in a row) and Indiana St. (won 13 of last 14). The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
